Rodents

Description:

Rodents, like humans, are warm-blooded mammals and are found all over the world. Their front teeth are longer than normal, adapted for gnawing. Because of their gnawing instinct, they cause great material damage.

Behaviour:

- Since rodents are very fast breeding creatures, their numbers increase in a short time. They cause serious damage to agricultural lands and stored products. They are known to carry important diseases and pose a serious risk to human health.

- Rodents make food unusable by consuming it or by contaminating what they cannot consume with their hair, urine and faeces. The damage caused by rodents to the economy in this way is measured in billions of dollars worldwide.

- Mice and rats can cause significant structural damage to houses and buildings. Rats can gnaw soft metals such as lead and copper, electrical cables and water pipes. They can cause flooding and power outages in urban areas.

Protection:

- Rodents, due to their body characteristics, can pass through holes that appear very small. Therefore, all openings that allow rodents to enter should be closed.

- Piles outside buildings or houses should be removed to prevent nesting.

- Keeping garbage areas clean, keeping the lids of garbage bins fully closed, replacing broken and cracked garbage bins with new ones are also important in terms of preventing rodents from being attracted to our buildings for feeding.

- Pruning tree branches touching the building and repairing leaking taps are other important measures that can be taken in terms of rodent protection.
